Below knee leg amputee, Steve Crowley, produced a strong performance in the men’s PTS4 category to win the silver medal behind Alexis Hanquinquant of France. The two athletes were vying for the lead throughout the hilly two-lap bike course with only 10 seconds separating them as they exited T2, before the Frenchman pulled away on the run.
Crowley said: “I’m very happy. My first Paratriathlon World Cup race of the season with a substantial field, in a new category and I’ve managed to bag a medal. Next stop is the European Championships in Kitzbuhel.”
Bret Crossley won his first international medal with a bronze in the men’s PTHC (wheelchair) category. After exiting the swim in seventh position, Crossley produced a strong hand bike performance to put him on to the podium.
There were also solid fourth place performances from John Fulton (PTS2), making his international debut in a strong field, and from Rio Paralympian Phil Hogg (PTHC), returning to international competition after a six-month break from training.
Paratriathlon Talent and Development Manager, Alasdair Donaldson commented: “This event was a really good opportunity for Steve to show where he is at in a new category and it was great to see him step up to the mark. It was good to see John make his international debut and deliver a solid performance in a very strong field.”
He added: “Bret and Phil were able to set markers for their potential Commonwealth Games selections with solid performances, which they can build upon during the season.”
