Continuing a fine run of form this season, European Championship silver medallist, Steve Crowley, won his first ITU international paratriathlon event in the men’s PTS4 category. Crowley said: “The win felt really good, it’s something I’ve been working towards for a long time. It was a good challenge with the current World number one in the field and the goal was to come and beat him on his home soil.”
It was also gold for Paralympic Champion swimmer, Claire Cashmore, competing in her international paratriathlon debut. Cashmore secured a gun to tape victory in the women’s PTS5 and commented: “I’m really happy with the race. Obviously there was a lot of learning opportunities and I feel like I learnt a lot from the race. It’s really encouraging at this stage, when I’m so early in my career.” There was also a silver medal for Kerry Large.

In the PTWC category, Bret Crossley and Lizzie Tench won silver medals. Crossley said: “The result is tinged with a little disappointment having got as close to the win as I did but I really enjoyed the event. I feel like I’m moving forward and so I’m happy.” Unfortunately European Champion, Jade Jones was unable to compete due to illness.
In the women’s PTS4 category, Cassie Cava, built upon her victory at the European Championships a couple of weeks ago, with a silver medal behind Tani from Japan, with Ruth Wilson taking the bronze medal. Cava said: “I had a really good race. I’m really pleased with my performance and to finish second behind the Japanese athlete.”
John Fulton, competing in only his second international paratriathlon event after attending a Talent ID day in January, won his first international medal with a bronze in the men’s PTS2. Fulton said: “I had a positive race and my first podium which I’m very pleased about.”
Paratriathlon Talent and Development Manager, Alasdair Donaldson, commented: “We’ve had a really good day and every single member of the team that raced came away with a medal. The developing World Cup events are really important for the developing athletes and it was great to see Steve take his first win and also Claire in her international debut.”
