RAF Tri dominate at the Clumber Classic Duathlon

The Clumber Classic Duathlon took place on Saturday 22 March giving age-group duathletes a second chance to qualify for the sprint and standard distance GB Age-Group Teams that will compete at the 2014 Pontevedra ITU Duathlon World Championships this June.

The event organised by One Step Beyond, took the huge field of more than 700 duathletes through the historic Sherwood Forest with an undulating course that left nowhere to hide.
 
In the sprint distance race, it was a one-two finish for RAF Tri as Peter Ellis (30-34) claimed first overall in 56.21 and Daniel Lewis (35-39) finished in second place with a time of 58.10.  Third place overall in the men’s race came down to a close finish with Scott O’Neill (35-39) of Stourbridge Velo just beating Piers Arnold (25-29) of Tri-Anglia to the podium by two seconds finishing in 58.42.
 
In the women’s race, Jess Learmonth (25-29) of Planet X Tri Team was first across the line in 01.02.58. The RAF Tri team had yet more success as Abi Bagshaw (20-24) finished in second place in a time of 01:06.13.
 
In the standard distance race, Duncan Bullock (25-29) claimed the top spot on the podium finishing in 01:52.54, with Ben Price (30-34) of Kinetic One finishing in second place with a time of 01:55.18. Third place overall went to Lee Piercy (40-44) of Performance Cycles in 01:55.40.
 
In the women’s race Pollyanne Linskill (25-29) finished first overall in 02:10.41, with Louise Fox (30-34) of Thames Valley Triathletes just behind in 02:10.57. Third place fell to Donna Edmondson Booker (40-44) of Crosstrax with a time of 02.16.34.

For duathletes who missed the chance to qualify at Clumber Classic Duathlon, the final chance for the sprint distance team is Stockton Duathlon on 27 April and for the standard team Morpeth Duathlon Festival (6 April) provides the final opportunity to make the team for the 2014 ITU World Championships.
