Richmond Triathlon Club’s 48-hour turbo session for South Tees Hospitals

Published:

Richmond Triathlon Club have set out to support their community with a 48-hour turbo challenge, featuring children, adults, parents of club members and coaches.

The challenge will see the participants take part in an indoor relay across two days of turbo action, from the 1 – 3 May.

The club said: "Our triathlon club may be restricted in what we can do currently, but we wanted to do something to support our local NHS workers.

“One of our coaches (Ryan) is on the frontline fighting COVID-19, so the club wanted to support him and our local hospital by raising much needed funds.”

The challenge will begin with a group cycle for the first hour, from 7am-8am on Friday, before the relay begins over Zoom. It will then be separated into splits, with the virtual baton being passed over on an hourly basis.

The challenge is planned to conclude with a final hour of cycling with frontline worker and coach, Ryan, who will lead a turbo session with the entire group.

The club is raising funds for South Tees Hospitals Charity, which uses donations to enhance the services that the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides. The charity primarily aims to improve patient care within the NHS.

The fundraiser has already reached over 200% of its original goal, and the club are blown away by the result already, saying: “It’s incredible. We’re gobsmacked by the support from people, it’s quite humbling really.”
