SportsAid Week 2020 is coming

Published:

This is the fifth year of SportsAid Week, with the aim being to shine a spotlight on the country’s most talented young athletes by encouraging the public to take on a physical activity challenge of their own between 21-27 September.

Each year, up-and-coming athletes on the British Triathlon pathway receive valuable funding from SportsAid to help prevent the financial cost of sport stopping them from taking part and developing as athletes.

Typically aged between 12 and 18, SportsAid athletes cover around 40 miles in their training every week alongside their school or university schedule, homework, assignments, time with family and social lives.

From 21-27 September 2020, you’ll be able to show them your support by joining in with the #MyMiles Challenge as part of SportsAid Week.

The #MyMiles Challenge, which first launched during SportsAid Week 2017, will once again be at the heart of the activities for the week.

The challenge asks people to show these young athletes their support by posting photos of them racking up the miles on social media using #MyMiles. It’s open to anyone and the distance covered is optional, making it accessible to all abilities.

In 2019, a total of 51,001 miles were covered and, since SportsAid Week launched in 2016, over £175,000 has been raised for the work of the charity in supporting young athletes.

SportsAid is embarking on a new chapter in its history. With Tokyo 2021, Beijing 2022 and Birmingham 2022 all on the horizon, and with the huge challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, they want to take this opportunity to celebrate the resilience, commitment and dedication shown by the next generation of British sporting heroes.
