Stewart Ross has been appointed as the new Chair of Triathlon Leeds, replacing Bill James who recently started his new role as Chair of British Triathlon Board.
As Director of Operations at the University of Leeds, Ross was involved in establishing the Leeds Triathlon Centre as a legal entity in 2018 and brings a wealth of experience in sports administration having led the Leeds City sports partnership for 10 years.
The Leeds Triathlon Centre is a partnership between British Triathlon, University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett University and Leeds City Council, working together to sustain and protect the outstanding achievements and foundations created by the centre.
Its vision is to make triathlon synonymous with Leeds by creating and maintaining pathways to participation in the sport at every level, as well as coaching and volunteering programmes to support the breadth of the sport across the whole city.
A triathlete himself and former chair of national higher education sports bodies and director of sport at three UK universities, Ross has both the sporting and organisational experience to maximise the centre’s performance potential and ensure the highest standards of governance across its activities and operations.
On his new role, Stewart said “I am delighted to be joining the Board in moving forward triathlon in Leeds. This is a very exciting opportunity and I hope that we can build on the excellent foundations laid so far.
“I would like to thank Bill James for his leadership of the centre over the past two years and look forward to continuing the very positive work that is taking place within the city and region.”
