Strathclyde Country Park to host triathlon festival for Britain's brightest young talent

Published:

Great Britain's top youth and junior triathletes will go head to head at Strathclyde Country Park in Scotland for the British Triathlon U20’s Festival on 3 - 4 September 2016.

The festival takes place at the iconic venue which famously hosted the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games triathlon and witnessed thousands of spectators supporting the Home Nation teams. Next summer, Strathclyde Country Park will hold Great Britain Age-Group Team qualification races for the 2017 ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships and the 2017 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships. It also prepares to host its first ITU World Paratriathlon Event on 5 June 2016.

As in previous years, the British Triathlon U20’s Festival will include the finale of the 2016 British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series as well as the British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships; where young triathletes from Triathlon Scotland, Welsh Triathlon and each of the Triathlon England regions compete not only for individual honours, but also for the coveted team title.

Youth and junior athletes will be able to enter soon at www.britishtriathlon.org/U20festival. More details on this are to follow. The entry process for Home Nation teams entering the British Triathlon Inter Regional Championships is managed by the relevant Home Nations.

Jane Moncrieff, Chief Executive Officer of Triathlon Scotland said: “It’s fantastic that the British Triathlon U20’s Festival will be coming to Scotland. 2016 is an exciting year for major triathlon events at Strathclyde Country Park, which will also host an ITU World Paratriathlon Event in June. We will be encouraging Scottish officials and volunteers to help support the delivery of these championships alongside British Triathlon and once again prove Scotland’s excellent event hosting abilities.”

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events said: “British Triathlon in partnership with Triathlon Scotland are delighted to take the British Triathlon U20’s Festival to Scotland, where the Home Nation’s leading young athletes will have the ability to race at the inspirational Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games venue. Strathclyde Country Park is a world-class venue for our sport and it’s fitting that we will see the next generation of triathletes racing for British titles and the coveted Inter-Regional Championships team title.”
