Published:

Strong performances delivered five medals to Great Britain this weekend, as the team celebrate success at the ETU Cross Duathlon European Championships.

A 20-strong team lined up on Saturday morning in Castro Urdiales, where they embarked on a 6km run along the cliffs overlooking the shore before passing through T1 along the promenade of the Playa de Ostend.

Once out on the bike, they faced a challenging 22.5km circuit, taking place over 3 laps, before passing through T2. The final 3km run leg was a one-lap sprint to the finish, where ETU European titles were decided.

Kirsty Prior (W40-44) was Great Britain’s sole gold medal winner, completing the course in 2:17:05 to top her age-group. Picking up age-group silver was Nicola Noble (W25-29) in 2:29:41, with Kirsty Vogan (W25-29) and Richard Hardy (M60-64) each winning bronze with their respective 2:17:05 and 2:30:43 clockings.

Great Britain’s Louise Fox had a fantastic race to go second in the elite women’s field.  Her time of 1:57:19 was four minutes adrift of champion Margarita Fullana Riera (1:53:11).
