Super League London, Alistair Brownlee takes on Badlands ultracycle and more swim, bike, run this weekend

Published:

A packed weekend of various multisport events offers something for every type of athlete, from Alistair Brownlee battling mountains and deserts in a gruelling ‘bikepacking’ challenge to Super League athletes juggling swim, bike, run across three shuffled stages.

Super League Triathlon London 2021

The triple mix format hits London this weekend, seeing athletes battle it out over three stages of shuffled disciplines.

Beginning with the traditional swim, bike, run, athletes will then join a running mass start to kick off the second stage which reverses the disciplines to be run, bike, swim. Finally, the race culminates in a bike, swim, run that will see the champion of the first SLT Championship series race crowned.

British athletes racing on home soil include Jonathan Brownlee and Alex Yee in the men’s race. The pair left the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with gold medals from the mixed relay as well as an individual silver for Yee. Rio 2016 Olympian, Gordon Benson, also features on the men’s start list.

The other half of Great Britain’s gold winning mixed relay team are also set to compete. Like Yee, Georgia Taylor-Brown secured silver at the Games whilst Jess Learmonth showed her credentials over the short course when she won her first Olympic gold in the relay.

Beth Potter, Sophie Coldwell and Vicky Holland are also set to return to Super League racing. Potter rose to the top of the Arena Games leaderboard earlier in the year, taking the top spot with a total of 56 points after a 1st place finish in London followed by 2nd place in Rotterdam.

Two points behind Potter, Coldwell also had a successful Arena Games, reaching the podium in London and leaving Rotterdam victorious. Holland finished 4th when racing in Jersey at the 2019 championships. Rounding out the British athletes competing is 2013 world champion and Rio 2016 Olympian Non Stanford who will also take on Sunday’s triple mix.

The women’s racing will take place on Sunday 5 September at 11:30am, with the men’s following at 13:00pm. You can watch the action live on BBC iPlayer, BT Sport, TriathlonLIVE and SLT TV, the latter of which you can find on the link below.

With climbs of up to 3,000 metres, 85% of the course being off-road and temperatures hitting highs of 40C and lows of 0C, the Badlands is a gruelling test of restraint and self-sufficiency. Brownlee will join fifty other athletes from the UK who will test themselves across the Badlands.
