The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has recently confirmed the 82 Technical Officials for Rio 2016, including four Brits.

Great Britain’s Duncan Hough and Jane Vine will act as Technical Officials for the Olympic Triathlon from 18-20 August, with Howard Vine and Sarah Taylor-Hough called up as Technical Officials for the inaugural Paratriathlon event from 10-12 September.

All four have considerable officiating experience at major international events such as the London 2012 Olympic Games and the ITU World Triathlon Series, and will draw upon this during the summer.

"It is an incredible honour to be put forward by British Triathlon and then actually be selected by the ITU as part of their officiating team" commented Sarah Taylor-Hough. She continued, "I am overwhelmed and extremely excited to be one of the officials assisting in the delivery of the very first paratriathlon event in Rio andto be involved in that legacy, as well as bringing it to the world's attention that triathlon is a sport for everyone."

The Technical Officials were selected in accordance with ITU’s Technical Officials Appointment Policy, which is a multi-phase process that involves input from ITU staff, National Federations, the ITU Technical Committee and finally the ITU Executive Board.

“ITU implements a transparent selection policy that is designed to ensure a balanced representation of the most qualified Technical Officials will be present at the Olympics and Paralympics. I’d like to thank all of those who were involved in the selection process,” said ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado.

A total of 37 nations will be represented via the Technical Officials, with Honduras, Jamaica, Korea, Malaysia, Tunisia, Austria, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Uzbekistan officiating at the Olympics or Paralympics for the first time.

British Triathlon would like to congratulate Duncan, Jane, Howard and Sarah on their deserving appointments and wish them every success come the summer.
