Top-five for Issy Morris on her Europe Triathlon Cup return

Published:

Issy Morris secured a top-five finish at Europe Triathlon Cup Yenişehir, her first Europe Triathlon event since 2019, while there were three British men in the top-20 in the men’s race in Turkey.

Both the elite men’s and women’s races came down to the final 5km with Morris part of a lead group of over 20 athletes who entered transition two together in the women’s race. Morris (00:57:44) was one of the fastest runners over the final leg, crossing the line fifth and only a couple of seconds behind fourth-place Romana Gajdosova of Slovakia in fourth.

The men’s race followed a similar pattern over the 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run distance, despite the efforts of Hamish Reilly in trying to breakaway on the opening lap of the bike.

With a huge field of 70 athletes taking to the start line, it was a highly competitive race, with 60 seconds separating the top-20 athletes at the finish line. The first 20 athletes included three British triathletes with Jack Willis (00:52:04), Cameron Harris (00:52:05) and Iestyn Harrett (00:52:06) all crossing the line within two seconds of each other.

Willis was the highest-ranked British male in 16th, closely followed by Harris in 17th and Harrett in 18th.

Reilly (00:52:33) was 30 seconds further back in 35th with Oliver Turner (00:52:58), who exited the swim in third, crossing the line 45th and Joshua Lewis (00:53:52) 57th.
