Triathlon England National Championships end on a high

What a year it’s been! With all 6 Triathlon England National Championships finished off and the final Champions crowned, we thought we’d give you a brief recap over what’s happened this year…

The 2018 Duathlon Championships took place at the rearranged OSB Events Clumber Park Duathlon on the sunny Early May Bank Holiday. Nearly a thousand competitors competed in this event which was also a qualifier for the 2018 and 2019 ITU Standard Distance Duathlon Championships and 2019 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships. The Epic Events Southport Triathlon hosted this years Standard Distance Championships on 20 May for the second of the years Championships. With numerous titles and qualifying positions being fought for it was a cracking event by the sea. Steph Banns was the first female across the line and James Cox and Nick Martin crossing the line neck and neck as the first male finishers. More information can be found here.

The third Championships of 2018 was the Sprint Distance Championships hosted by TriProject’s Thorpe Park Sprint Distance Triathlon. A stunning setting for a triathlon was matched by the weather as nearly 800 competitors turned out in search of the national title and the opportunity to qualify for the 2019 ETU Sprint Distance Championships. The second half of the Championships season was kicked off with the Aquathlon Championships at the Monster Racing Aquathlon in Ferry Meadows Country Park. The fantastic summer weather led to a non-wetsuit swim and a great day out in the sun! Nathan Tweedie (00:27:01) and Emily Alderson (00:30:33) were the fasted male and female competitors, leaving the rest of the field in their wake. More information on the Aquathlon can be found here.

The ‘organised chaos’ of the OSB Club Relays at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham once again played host to the National Club Relay Championships. With teams from across the country coming out to race and cheer on the club members, it was an exciting and entertaining day of racing. The 2018 Championships season drew to a close with the Middle Distance Championships at the Vitruvian Triathlon. This much loved and well established event was won overall by Sam Wade, who also took the British Middle Distance title earlier in the year, with Katrina Rye finishing as the fastest female around the course. With the 2018 season now closed, it is time to review the year and look ahead to 2019, all Triathlon England members are invited to attend the annual AGM, taking place at Beaumanor Hall on Saturday 10 November 2018 along with a number of workshops designed to help triathletes, coaches, volunteers and enthusiasts learn more on a variety of different subjects.
