A combination of low water and choppy conditions meant the swim was cancelled in Cork on Sunday, resulting in the pro startlist setting off in a time trial format on the bike (at intervals of 30 seconds). With wet and windy conditions throughout, double Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee prevailed after clawing back a 17 minute deficit from T2 over the marathon to take a debut full distance win and the one Kona Ironman World Championship qualification on offer.
Compatriot Robert Drake finished 8th in the pro race in a time of 9:19:49.
Ironman 70.3 European Championships Elsinore
