Jonathan Brownlee took his first World Triathlon Series gold medal in two years with a stunning win in Edmonton. The Brit beat off Spain’s Mario Mola and Belgium’s Marten Van Riel to return to the top step of the WTS podium.
Beth Potter’s World Triathlon Series debut resulted in a 14th placed finish with Sophie Coldwell coming home a place behind in 15th.
The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final takes place on 31 August in Lausanne, Switzerland.
There was more medal delight in Canada as the British Mixed Relay team of Sophie Coldwell, Jonathan Brownlee, India Lee and Gordon Benson, took silver to secure another excellent result for the British team.
Welsh Triathlon National Aquathlon Championships and Welsh Triathlon National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships
Two events, which were part of the Welsh National Championships, took place at the weekend with Deri Stewart and Hannah Louise Jenkins taking gold in the men’s and women’s races at the Welsh Triathlon National Aquathlon Championships.
The Welsh Triathlon National Middle Distance Triathlon also took place with Finn Arentz being crowned the male champion and Vikki Sivertson taking the tape in the women’s race.
The sixth round of the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series was held at Hetton Lyons on Saturday bringing together the best young triathletes from across the UK.
Aidan Turner put in a dominant performance in the Tri Stars 1 male race to win gold with Barbara De Koning taking the honours in the Junior Female Final.
The British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series will conclude at next month’s British Triathlon Big Weekend at Mallory Park.
