ITU World Triathlon Montreal

Four British women in the top ten, including two on the podium and one winner made ITU World Triathlon Montreal brilliant viewing over the weekend. Vicky Holland is now just 34 points shy of Katie Zaferes (USA) at the top of the Series leader board and Georgia Taylor-Brown is remarkably up to third. The 24 year-old has been sidelined with injury for years, and is now on the brink of an overall Series podium. However, she won’t be taking anything for granted at all with team mate Jess Learmonth very close behind in fourth place and Jodie Stimpson in sixth. British women’s triathlon has never been so strong, and the Grand Final is not to be missed – be prepared for an early start on Saturday 15 September.

The men’s race went to Mario Mola (ESP)… again. He’s dominated the season and it’s hard to see anyone challenging him for the ITU world title. Tom Bishop was well placed after the first few laps of the challenging, technical bike course, but then the Norwegian fireworks started, and Kristian Blummenfelt and Casper Stornes split the field apart. Blummenfelt won silver for his efforts, and Bishop was 24th. The Grand Final is set to feature both Brownlee brothers, assuming Alistair comes through this weekend’s IRONMAN 70.3 World Championships in shape to make the trip to the Gold Coast.

2018 Székesfehérvar ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup

Morgan Davies backed up his ETU win in Malmo earlier this month with another great performance to take the gold this weekend in Székesfehérvar. It was again blisteringly fast run split (14:18) over the final 5km which took Davies through to claim the top spot on the podium after the peloton came together ahead of T2.

There were four top ten finishes in the women’s race with Jenny Manners leading the British charge with a silver medal. Sophie Alden (4th) led the field after a strong swim and was joined by Zoe Thomas (5th) - who was celebrating her Birthday, in the early stages on the bike. A foot race ensued after the chase group caught the lead pack and Manners was only just piped over the final 5km by Austrian Vilic. Hannah Kitchen also finished 10th.
