Weekend Roundup: Funchal, Ibiza and Super League

British athletes show form across the globe as the curtain begins to close on the 2018 season.

Super League’s second weekend of the series was hosted in Malta at the weekend, while the paratriathlon talent squad haul in the medals at the Maderia World Cup. Ben Dijkstra also showed his return to form at the final ETU European Cup of 2018, with the GB age-group team showing dominance in Ibiza.

2018 has been a breakthrough year for the British Paratriathlon Team, from the talent squad right up to the World Class Lottery Funded squad, with this weekend no different! Mark Conway (PTWC) added to a string of ITU podiums with a win in Portugal with team mate Joshua Landmann closely following to take third. In the women’s PTWC race, Sophie Taylor took silver in what was only her second international race.

Stuart Meikle (PTS2) put the hard work in the swim and bike to set up his win, which is his best result to date in international competition. Another to receive their best result at a World Cup was Michael Taylor (PTS4) who finish on the podium in third, Finley Jakes (PTS4) fought hard to take eighth in his first international start. In the PTS4 women’s race, Megan Richter took gold beating all of the PTS5 women too. Philip Barker (PTS5) took eighth with Iain Dawson (PTVI) finishing sixth.

2018 Funchal ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup

Ben Dijkstra is showing his return to form after missing the majority of the season due to injury with a seventh in Funchal, in a strong field which included Marten Van Riel (BEL). Jack Willis just missed out on a top ten spot running home in 12th, Sam Dickinson closely followed to finish 15th. Cameron Harris finished 20th, Chris Perham came 42nd. Zoe Thomas finished 18th in the women’s race.
