What's coming up this weekend...

This weekend international triathletes will travel to Sarasota in Florida for the ITU World Cup event and Spain for the Melilla ETU Triathlon Junior and Senior European Cup. Athletes will hope for a sunshine theme, with Florida being the sunshine state and Melilla being located on mainland northern Africa. At home, there is the final Triathlon England National Championship of the season at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Sarasota ITU Triathlon World Cup

It was recently announced that races in Sarasota will now take the format of a duathlon due to water issues, providing a new challenge for athletes heading out to Florida this coming weekend.

Sarasota hosts its first ITU World Cup event, the biggest ITU event in the USA since the Grand Final in Chicago in 2015. Katie Zaferes provides the home crowd favourite and the highest profile athlete in the men’s or women’s standard distance field.

Jenny Manners and Grant Sheldon are amongst those getting ready to compete on the challenging course. The women’s event is on Saturday followed by the men on Sunday. Full start lists can be found here.

Sarasota ITU Paratriathlon World Cup

Paralympic and World Champion, Andy Lewis is the sole British paratriathlete flying the flag in Sarasota this weekend. He races on Sunday have recently reclaimed his ITU World title after battling back from a mid-season high-speed bike crash.

He said: “I missed a chunk of the season through my accident and having got myself back in shape, I wanted to continue my season for just a few extra weeks. Florida seems a great place to finish things off, hopefully with a good result too.”

Melilla ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup

Two British juniors will be in Melilla to compete in the ETU Triathlon Junior European Cup on Sunday. Bordering Morocco, the course promises to put the juniors to the test. Kate Gallagher and Cameron Main will compete against some of Europe’s top junior athletes. Full start list here.

Melilla ETU Triathlon European Cup Final

Alongside the junior action, the ETU Triathlon European Cup Final will take place on Sunday to mark the finale of ETU Cup action for 2017. Liam Lloyd, Chris Perham and others will be lining up on the start line against the likes of newly crowned ITU U23 World Champion, Raphaël Montoya (FRA) and double 2017 ETU European Champion (sprint and standard), Joao Pereira (POR). Triathlon England National Duathlon Championships

Oulton Park will be holding the last Triathlon England National Championship of the season, where top duathletes will race against each other for national titles. Taking place at the famous Cheshire racing circuit, athletes will compete over the standard distance.
