What happened at the weekend…

ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi

It was an eventful start to the weekend with the start of the ITU World Triathlon Series in Abu Dhabi, which saw crashes in both the Men’s and Women’s races, including defending ITU World Champion Flora Duffy. But it was a good day for Jess Learmonth, who won silver.

In an eventful race, Jess stayed out of trouble on the bike commenting that it was; “absolute carnage today! Hope everyone is ok!” Vicky Holland was held up by a crash, and both Sophie Coldwell and Non Stanford hit the deck. Both are fine and have arrived safely in Australia now.

Jonathan Brownlee lead the chase pack on the first lap before his wheels slid beneath him through a narrow section of the course. He said: “I crashed on the first lap. I didn’t realise how slippery some parts of the circuit were.” He ran through for seventh place.

Tom Bishop finished in 14th and commented on twitter: “Felt great but I crashed on the first lap and lost my head after that.” (Full Tweet).
