What part will you play in this year’s Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds?

With opportunities to volunteer, spectate and take part, 2017’s event is set to be bigger and better than ever, when it arrives on 10-11 June.

The ITU World Triathlon Series kicked off in style in Abu Dhabi, and it’s now less than three months until the series arrives on British turf for the fourth round of action in June. With the weekend set to be the biggest on the UK triathlon calendar this year, there are plenty of ways for you to get a piece of the action.

VOLUNTEER

Event Organisers British Triathlon have recently opened applications for volunteers at this year’s event, and are looking for over 500 people to become ‘Tri Makers’ on Friday 9, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 June.

This army of Tri Makers will be vital in contributing to the success of the UK's most prestigious triathlon event, supporting in key roles such route marshalling, registration, transition and elite athlete support. Volunteers will receive full training to ensure they’re up to the important tasks, as well as receiving a free event t-shirt and plenty of refreshments on the day.

Applications are now open for those aged 14+ to become a Tri Maker. To find out more and pledge your support visit leeds.triathlon.org/volunteer

TAKE PART

Whether you’re competing for pride or podium, the weekend is jam-packed with multisport events for all the family.

On Saturday 10 June, Roundhay park will become a family friendly hive of activity as TriStar, Youth and Junior, GO TRI and Aquathlon events take place, whilst there will also be an opportunity for up and coming paratriathletes to race alongside more experienced competitors in a new addition to this year’s line-up.

Sunday 11 June will see athletes take to the sprint and standard distance events in a unique ‘point to point’ course. A swim in Roundhay Park’s Waterloo Lake will precede a challenging bike route towards the city centre, before athletes re-rack their bikes in Roundhay Park and head on foot to the world famous blue carpet finish in the city centre's Millennium Square. Whether it’s as an individual or as part of a relay team, for yourself or for a charity, grab your piece of the action before the world’s best take to the stage.

SPECTATE

On Sunday afternoon it’s the turn of the world’s best triathletes to toe the start line. Contested over the standard distance with a more technical, city centre-based bike course, the race is guaranteed to deliver a thrilling showcase of endurance and strategy in front of tens of thousands of Leeds’ sports-loving residents.

Take in unrivalled views of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Series Leeds from the spectator grandstand...

Following a double sell-out of tickets in 2016 there is once again an opportunity to take in unrivalled views of the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Series Leeds from the spectator grandstand on the afternoon of Sunday 11 June. British Triathlon Home Nation members and 2017 event entrants will be able to access a priority entry window, which opens soon.

Not a Home Nation member? Be amongst the first to hear about Grandstand ticket sales by registering your interest here.

Don’t fancy watching on from the grandstand? There are three main locations that we recommend you cheer from; Roundhay Park, along the route from Roundhay Park to the city centre and the city centre. Getting around, particularly on Sunday, will be difficult; so the advice as was last year, is to stick to one spot and enjoy the action as it unfolds.
