Willis top ten in Belgium, Tim Don is back & Abraham wins in Nice

The British Championships grabbed the home triathlon headlines with wins for Adam Bowden and Sophie Alden. There was also overseas success across all race distances, including an inspiring return to form for Tim Don, who broke his neck last October in Kona and an IRONMAN win for Corinne Abraham.

British Elite Triathlon Championships, Cardiff

Adam Bowden defended his national title over the sprint distance in Cardiff following his European 70.3 silver last weekend. In the Women’s race Sophie Alden won the title for the first time, pushing clear of Kate Waugh on the run.

2019 ITU Standard Distance Triathlon Qualifier, Leeds Castle Triathlon

Edward Castro, a former Age-Group European champion, took the win at Leeds Castle Triathlon in Kent. It was Castro’s third domestic podium finish this season. Oliver Crossley came in second with Will Russell completing the podium in the overall standings.

World Silver Medallist in the 30-34 Female AG Victoria Baker, took an impressive win with a near three minute lead. Christine Tognoli came in second, Corinne Moss finished third.

2018 Wuustwezel ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup, Belgium

Three British athletes headed to Wuustwezel in what was a very dominant Belgian field. Jack Willis fought through the field to secure eight place, Liam Lloyd posted a fast bike leg to finish 24th in his competitive return following injury. Alex Chantler Mayne finished 31st.

IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Rica

Tim Don made global headlines returning to the sport at IRONMAN 70.3 Costa Rica, just eight months after a crash which broke his neck, forcing him to miss the World Championships in Kona last October. To be back to racing so soon is testament to his determination, resilience and strong support team. To have won the race demonstrates the pure class of a former ITU world champion and Olympian.

IRONMAN Nice

Corinne Abraham may have started her sporting life as a Welsh junior judo player, but she’s now firmly one of Britain’s group of remarkably successful female long-distance athletes. She’s previously won the European Ironman title and this weekend added Ironman Nice to her list of victories. She set a new course record in the process. Her winning time of 9:11:39 on a very challenging course featured a stunning marathon run of 2:56:45 to finish.
