Hamburg opened the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), Learmonth and Yee took the victories at Super League Triathlon Jersey, and Charles-Barclay becomes 70.3 world champion in Utah.
Hamburg Wasser World Triathlon Championship Series Hamburg
Sian Rainsley (5th), Kate Waugh (9th) and Olivia Mathias (12th) all raced in the women’s race and Gordon Benson (18th) competed in the men’s race as Hamburg kicked off the 2022 WTCS on Saturday.
A British team of Mathias, Daniel Dixon, Rainsley and Connor Bentley raced on the Sunday in the mixed relay, with Bentley sprinting to the team to a sixth place finish.
Super League Triathlon Jersey – Enduro
It was a British one-two in both the men’s and women’s races in Jersey, with Alex Yee and Jess Learmonth both taking gold ahead of Jonny Brownlee and Georgia Taylor-Brown.
The Enduro format, three consecutive swim, bike, runs, provided plenty of action. Yee and Brownlee were consistently placed among the leaders throughout the race as a group of eight athletes dominated the first two rounds of swim, bike, run.
Onto the final round and this had broken down into a distinct five, with Wilde (NZL) leading the way and the two Brits hot on his heels. It wasn’t until they entered the finish area that Yee and Brownlee passed the New Zealander before Yee sprinted to the win in the final 50m.
In the women’s race, Learmonth made it three wins out of three as she once again led from the front throughout the race alongside compatriot Taylor-Brown.
The pair were in a race of their own at the front entering the final round however, with Learmonth taking the lead out of the swim, Taylor-Brown crashed into the advertising boards leaving T1 to allow Learmonth to charge into a lead.
Taylor-Brown’s drama wasn’t over yet though. Thinking she’d earned a short chute, she took the shorter loop at the beginning of the first lap of run three only to later find out she hadn’t and was subsequently disqualified. Deciding to complete the final lap and finish the race, Taylor-Brown doubled-back on herself to make up the distance before appealing her disqualification and being reinstated into second place behind a once-again dominant Learmonth.
France’s Cassandre Beaugrand finished third, with Brits Vicky Holland and Beth Potter fourth and fifth and Non Stanford and Sophie Coldwell nineth and tenth.
This coming weekend in Malibu is the final race of the SLT Championship Series, with Brownlee and Learmonth currently in the lead.
IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, St. George, Utah
Lucy Charles-Barclay stormed to world championship victory at the weekend over the 70.3 distance in St. George, Utah.
The Brit showed her dominance across all the stages as she won by an eight-minute margin from Jeanni Metzler (RSA). Taylor Knibb (USA) finished third, with Britain’s Katrina Matthews (4th), Emma Pallant-Browne (5th), Holly Lawrence (8th) and Nikki Bartlett (9th) all finishing in the top ten.
Having completed the swim with a near-90 second lead, Charles-Barclay showed similar prowess on the bike as she continued to grow her lead on the athletes down the road behind her. Her total time for the 90km bike leg was 02:14:59, over five minutes faster than Metzler and three and a half quicker than Knibb.
Charles-Barclay didn’t let up on the run either, putting further time into the rest of the field to finish in just over four hours.
In the men’s race, Gustav Iden (NOR) took the title ahead of Sam Long (USA) and Daniel Baekkegard (DEN).
The Norwegian had over a minute’s deficit to make up coming out of the water, however made his move throughout the bike leg to take the lead mid-way through the second stage before powering through to T2.
Now with his own lead of over a minute, Iden ran through to victory in 03:37:13. Britain’s George Goodwin crossed the line 30th in 04:17:21.
IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence
Racing through the picturesque Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of the south of France were Britain’s Kimberley Morrison, Fenella Langridge and Andrew Horsfall Turner.
Morrison and Langridge finished fourth and fifth in the women’s race behind Swiss athlete Imogen Simmonds who took the tape in 04:22:55. In the men’s race, Horsfall Turner finished in 04:08:06 to come eleventh. Home athlete Arthur Horseau won in 03:55:06.
IRONMAN Austria-Karnten
Chantal Cummings competed in Austria in the Austrian province of Carinthia. Lake Worthersee was a focal point of the event, with the start, finish and bike and run legs all taking place in and around the lake.
Cummings crossed the line in 09:27:27 to finish fifth in the female pro race.
IRONMAN 70.3 Weymouth
Weymouth welcomed age group IRONMAN athletes for a 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run along the Dorset coast this weekend. Stephen Derrett posted the fastest male time of the day, whilst Rosie Weston went fastest of the women.

2021 World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Duathlon Championships Zofingen
Athletes representing the Great Britain Age-Group Team came back from Switzerland with four medals, two of which were gold for Daniel Soltys (male 25-29) and Andrew Macrae (male 35-39).
The two other medals were won by Elizabeth Burgess who took silver in the female 50-54 age group and Bryan Vaughan, who claimed gold in the male 55-59 category.
Triathlon Scotland Cross Triathlon Championships
Aviemore Triathlon hosted the Scottish Cross Triathlon Championships at the weekend. Triathlon Scotland members from across the age groups competed for national titles, with Cameron Kerr the youngest winner on the day in the U20 category.
Triathlon England Aquathlon Championships
The Worthing Aquathlon welcomed Triathlon England members to battle it out for the title of National Aquathlon Champion. Neil Arundel, gold medal winner from the Triathlon England Aquathlon Championships in 2019, once again won his age category this year.
Welsh Triathlon Super Series
The fourth stage of the Welsh Super Series took place at the Sandman Sprint Triathlon. The final race of the series is on Sunday 3 October, with SWYD Sprint Triathlon hosting the series finale at Barry Island.
Great Britain Age-Group Team Qualifiers
British Triathlon Home Nation members headed to Darley Moor Race Circuit at the weekend in search of qualification places at the 2022 World Triathlon Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships.
