Three national winners from the NE...

The North East region has won three National Awards.

National Volunteer of the Year - Beth Swanston

Beth is the cornerstone of Ryton Tri Club, she organises and supports weekly training sessions, supporting events, communicating with parents and scheduling sessions with coaches. Her motivation is second to none. She is our Go To person in the club who knows everyone: what their fears are and how to get beyond these. She has even got parents to become involved in triathlon making it a very family based sport.

National Children's Event of the Year 2018 - Reason To...Disability Tri

Tracey Sample & Jo Shallcross organise an inspirational event that helps children with disabilities achieve and experience a triathlon. The joy on the faces of the athletes and parents is indescribable and the athletes themselves are an inspiration.  The event is tailored to the ability of each participant and is utterly unique. From the race registration, tshirts, goodie bags and swim hats though to the marshalled course and a finishing "red carpet" the event grows and develops each year.  The sponsors provide different bikes to support the children and every participant finishes to a huge cheer, a high five and with a massive smile. It is a truly humbling and remarkable event.

National GO TRI Event Organiser 2018 - Sue Heppell

Sue Heppell is a member of Ponteland Tri Club and has put on numerous GO TRI events over the past few years. Sue runs an event out of Ponteland Leisure Centre that is rare to find a midweek pool based GO TRI event that's so accessible to Newcastle area and this is ideal for beginners and those more experienced looking to practice transition aswell as fitness & training runs. Through regular pre event email contact and phone support newcomers concerns are answered and they are put at ease. The race safety briefing emphasises newcomers especially and all to just enjoy the experience and not worry so much about times and performance. Sue is able to make everyone involved both Marshall’s and participants feel that they are part of a special supportive family. Lots of people attend month after month because Sue's events always have a feel good factor.

Well Done to everyone, this is a fantastic achievement and puts the NE on the map.
