North East Open Water CPD

We will be holding a Open Water Coaching CPD on the 29th June at Seaham Marina Activity Centre. The course runs between 9am and 5pm and costs £49. A full overview can be found below.

Overview of the workshop

The Open Water Coaching workshop is aimed primarily at coaches who currently deliver or would like to deliver coached open water sessions.

The one-day workshop has a mix of theory and practical designed to support the development of open water coaching knowledge and ability.

As well as getting hands on practical experience coaching a group of open water swimmers, you will also cover

  • What types of activities can go into an open water session and how to integrate these into a session plan
  • The health and safety of open water coaching and what to look for in a venue when delivering open water sessions
  • Coaching skills for effective open water session delivery
  • How to effectively manage a safety team and gaining an insight how to best work with them.

Workshop Pre-requisites

  • Level 1 Triathlon Coach.   Level 1 coaches will only be qualified as an assistant coach
  • Level 2 or Trainee L2 coach (enrolled on a current Coaching Course)
  • Level 3 Triathlon Coach
  • Up to date Home Nation’s membership

  • The workshop will provide you with
  • A deeper understanding of how to coach in open water environment
  • The knowledge to ensure your sessions are safe
  • Practical experience to develop your open water coaching skills
  • Accesses to multiple online resources to support your coaching
  • An opportunity to reflect on your open water coaching with the support of other coaches.

SWIMMERS WANTED!

British Triathlon are looking for some triathletes and open water swimmers to come along to be coached in the Open Water for just £5!

A number of British Triathlon coaches will be attending an open water coaching workshop to develop their Open Water coaching skills. An integral part of the workshop is the applied practical experience the coaches will get from coaching a session with a group of swimmers. This means we need you to come and swim!

  • Date: 29th June 2019
  • Location:  Marina Activity Centre, Seaham
  • Time: 1.45pm to 4.30pm
  • Kit Required: Wetsuit, Goggles, Swim Hat, Warm/Dry Clothing

The length of time in the water will depend on a number of factors including weather on the day and number of swimmers in each group. After session you will be given the opportunity to provide feedback to the coaches you worked with as part of their development. There will be changing facilities and refreshments available to purchase on site.

Important Information

This session is only appropriate for people who have had experience of swimming in open water environments. It will not be suitable to those who have never swam in open water before. As a guide, we recommend that you need to be able to comfortably swim 400m in open water without pause. All swimmers will need to sign a Participant Disclaimer and Health Information form. This will be sent out prior to the workshop.
