Junior Series 2013

Junior Series Winners 2013

All the races in this year's Junior Triathlon Series have now been completed. The Final North West Junior Triathlon Series standings, after the final races at Chester and Carlisle, can be found HERE

Children that have won a prize in the Series will get an invitation to the North West Presentation Night in the week commencing 14th October.

Next year's Junior Series is currently being collated. Race organisers are in the process of confirming dates and venues. The proposed Junior Series for 2014 will appear on this web page sometime after mid-November.

There has been some fantastic racing this season and the standards throughout has risen from last year. This was reflected in the North West Region winning the Inter Regional Championship at Eton Dorney in August. Entrants in many races were up 30% on 2012. A great year. I hope everyone has enjoyed their season and can find the time to celebrate it at the North West Regions Presentation night on 30th November, where all prize winners, including the Regional Club Champions, will receive their trophies.

2013 Club Championship Scores

I am please to announce that the Salt Ayre Triathlon results have now been finalised and the North West Region Junior Triathlon Club Championship scores have been calculated.

Congratulations must go to Tri Team Wigan for lifting the girls trophy and to Mersey Tri for lifting the Boys trophy.

In the Boys competition the day started well for Mersey Tri in the Tristar Start Boys with Elliot Bujac and Daniel Johnston taking first and second respectively. This was followed up in the T1 Boys with Sam Johnston (second) and Tyr Bujac (sixth) scoring good points. In the most competitive race of the day, the T2 boys, Mersey Tri again picked up good points with Louis Johnston and Matthew Slater coming in fifth and sixteenth respectively. In the T3 category Daniel Slater and Ronan Murphy were the points scorers coming in a solid tenth and eleventh. With no entries in the Youth Boys it then became a matter of waiting to see if enough points had been scored already to lift the title, which in the end was done with a comfortable margin of 12 points in front of second placed Tri Lakeland Juniors.

In the Girls competition the day started well for Tri Team Wigan with a win in the Tristar Start race for Alice Ockwell, the only Wigan representative in that age-group. The next triathletes to put points on the Wigan doors were Zoe Holliday. eighth, and Scarlett Hilton, twelfth in the T1 girls. In the T2 girls Wigan only had one competitor, Megan Finn, who finished in a fine sixth place. It was the later races that saw Wigan pile on the points and this began with the T3 Girls. Wigan actually had the first for girls over the line with Anna Hulme collecting the maximum 100 points and Emily Barker finishing second. Francesca Brint and Charlotte Casselton were third and fourth respectively. The day finished with the Youth girls where Wigan again scored well with Sophie Myers finishing second and Ruth Whipp in fourth. This gave Wigan a total of 953 points to finish 9 points ahead of COLT.

Other great performances on the day came from Charlotte and Felicity Barnes who came first and second in the T1 girls race for BATS, who were one of the smaller teams on the day. Colt almost replicated the Wigan T3 girls results having four of the first five over line in the T2 girls race.

The North West Region Junior Triathlon Championship Team Totals can be found HERE.

The North West Region Junior Triathlon Championship Individual Results can be found HERE.

Please note the following when viewing the results:

  • only the first two competitors across the line for a club were eligible to score points
  • where a Club did not have two competitors in a race they have been added a "default score" equivalent to being in last place for any missing competitor.

Finally I hope everyone enjoyed the day. The event attracted 245 entrants which made it the largest event of the North West Junior Series this year. I hope everyone will come and support this event next year and make it bigger and better. Next year I will endeavour to ensure the timing system will allow us to issue results as we go through the event and present the winning teams with their trophies before they go home!

Well done to everyone that took part - YOU, made it a great event.

Presentation of the two trophies to Tri Team Wigan and Mersey Tri will be done at the North West Presentation evening on Saturday 30th November at the Lancashire Manor Hotel, Pimbo. Details of how to book a place at this event will appear on this web page soon.
