North West Skills School

Skills School is an exciting and innovative new initiative from Triathlon England that will better support the development of young triathletes and Children’s Club Coaches in each region.

Information for Athletes

Skills School days are a great opportunity for young triathletes to develop their triathlon skills in a fun and engaging environment.  Each day will be led by a regional Skills School Lead Coach and supported by qualified British Triathlon Coaches. The activities will be built upon our world class Skills Development framework and will vary from day to day.

Those wishing to attend a Skills School day must be able to swim, bike and run for 5 minutes continually in each of the three, and must be between the ages of 10- 16 years.  Having some experience of triathlon will be beneficial, but is not essential.  Skills School days will be afternoons packed with fun triathlon-related activity to allow guided discovery and exploratory games to develop skills in triathlon.

Information for Coaches

Unlike traditional forms of coach education, Skills School is unique in that it harnesses the power of experiential learning and combines it with support from experienced coaches, coach developers and a coaching curriculum.  All coaches who hold British Triathlon coaching qualification from Level 1 onwards and an up to date home nation membership are invited to get involved with these Skills School days.

As part of the coaching CPD programme Skills School will take place over multiple sessions such as collaboratively planning, active self-reflection and delivery alongside other coaches.  Skills School days will actively support coaches to develop a community of practice with other youth coaches and each day will focus upon developing coaches ability to deliver engaging, effective and creative sessions.  Typically coaches will plan together in the morning of the session, with the delivery being in the afternoon at the same venue or nearby.
