GO TRI Seashell

Published:

We are proud to be supporting Seashell Trust and Crazy Legs Events in running GO TRI Seashell.

GO TRI Seashell will take place on the 16th July 2017 at Seashell Trust, Stanley Road, Cheadle Hulme. During the day, there will be a GO TRI Duathlon for children aged between 8 and 14 as well as a GO TRI triathlon for anyone aged 8 and above who needs individual support to take part.

Seashell Trust is a charity with operates an Outstanding (Ofsted) special school and college as well as residential homes for children and young people with complex and severe learning disabilities which often include little or no language abilities as well as severe autism.  The charity provides a haven where they can flourish and become valued and valuable members of their community.

Maureen Wilkins, a teacher at the charity’s Royal College Manchester, who has herself competed as a GB Age-Group Triathlete, is organising the day.  Maureen said: “This triathlon is quite unique as it has been adapted to suit every individual’s needs in a safe environment around the Trust’s grounds.  Specialist equipment is also available, such as hoists, adapted bicycles, tricycles, quad cycles and MOTOmeds.  With the support of the fantastic staff at the Trust everyone will be supported.”

“We create visual symbols that are structured to each person’s needs to enable athletes to follow a sequence or routine for each activity”, she added.

The charity’s campus lends itself ideally to the triathlon as it has plenty of wide paths for cycling and running, a swimming pool and separate hydrotherapy pool and a fully inclusive fitness suite.

The cost for both events is £11, to register please follow this link or for more information about being involved in the triathlon please contact Maureen Wilkins.
