Open Water Training Events in Brighton

We are very excited to announce the details for our 2019 open water training events across the summer - perfect if you have already entered an open water triathlon, or you are planning to! A big thank you to Brighton Tri Club for their provision of coaches for these sessions.

Course Overview

The GO TRI Open Water training day is aimed at first timers who have entered or intend to enter the Brighton and Hove triathlon, an open water GO TRI or any other sea swim triathlon. The GO TRI Open Water Training Day will be delivered by British Triathlon qualified coaches from Brighton Tri Club. Many thanks to BRI TRI and their coaches for volunteering their time.

Course Topics

This session will help you prepare and feel confident for your first open water swim event by covering the following:

- How to get into and out of a wetsuit
- How to swim in a wetsuit
- Swimming in the waves
- Swimming in a group with other participants
- Introduction to and top tips for transition
- Getting comfortable in open water - special provision will be made for first time open water swimmers
- Practice sighting to learn how to navigate an open water course
- Learn how to turn around buoys
- Q+A session on participating in a triathlon

Dates: 

- 8th June - please note this session is for women only 
- 22nd June 
- 20th July 
- 31st August

Time:

10:30am to be in the water for 11am

Location:

The Lifeguard station on the beach, at West Pier, Kings Road, Brighton. You will be able to identify the Lifeguard station by its red windbreakers and coloured flags, there will also be a Red GO TRI Flag positioned about 200m east of the Peace Statue and 300m west of the derelict West Pier. The nearest landmark is the bandstand.

We recommend cycling to the venue, please bring a bike lock. But there is parking on the sea front, adjacent streets and a car park five minutes walk away at Regency Square Car Park, Brighton BN1 2GG, there is no free parking in this area.

What you'll need:

- General kit list:
- Trainers
- Shorts/Leggings
- T-Shirt or top
- Water bottle
- Towel
- Swimming:
1 or 2 piece costume for ladies
- Trunks or shorts for men
- A wetsuit if your swim is open water
- Don't forget your goggles!
