Skills School season starting soon – not like other training sessions!

The Skills School season is just about to start so this seems a great time to remind everyone, young athletes and coaches, all about Skills School and how you can get involved.  Skills School days are an opportunity for young triathletes, 10-16 years, to develop their triathlon skills in a fun and engaging environment.  In the South East, Skills School days are led by Liz Scott, Skills School Lead Coach and supported by qualified British Triathlon Coaches.   Skills School activities are based on British Triathlon’s world class Skills Development framework and complement regular club sessions.   If you are a parent and would like to be kept up to date with all things Skills School please contact Liz at skillsschoolsoutheast@britishtriathlon.org.  Skills School days and reports can also be found on the TESE Facebook page.

As of this autumn, Skills School will be an important and valuable CPD module for all coaches whether currently coaching young athletes or not.  And as with the athletes, Skills School will provide a unique and effective environment in which coaches can learn within a “live” coaching context, and will involve planning & coaching alongside other coaches.  Coaches will soon be able to book onto a Skills School in the same way as other CPD modules, but for now if you are a coach looking to develop your all round coaching skills please contact Liz directly at skillsschoolsoutheast@britishtriathlon.org.

The next Skills School in the South East will be on Saturday October 27th at Bluecoats School in Horsham.  The focus of the day will be developing bike handling skills and open water skills (in the pool) and all athletes 10-16 yrs will be welcome.  And if you, as an athlete, have been before, don’t worry you will be challenged with something new!   The booking link is not yet live so please email Liz to let her know that you would like to come along.

South East team shows great spirit at IRCs

The 2018 Inter Regional Championships (IRCs) were held at Mallory Par, Leicestershire on 15th/16th September.  For those not familiar, the IRC team is made up of 11-14 year olds that have qualified from 2 selection races earlier in the year! The South East team showed great spirit when things did not go their way (2 athletes came off their bikes and jumped straight back on) and there were some strong performances across the age groups. Particular congratulations to Bethany Cook winning this national competition in the Tristar 3 Girls category and to Lauren Mitchell (TS 2 Girls), Hannah Mitchell and Megan Ormiston (both TS 3 Girls) for top 10 placings! South East took 4 teams into the Mixed Relay competition and came 4th overall - a great achievement! Well done team South East and thanks to everyone involved for making this both fun and exciting!
