On July 12th 72 pupils with additional needs from 8 different primary & special schools & 24 Sports Leaders from 2 different secondary schools & an FE college, came together to participate in, or support the first ever inclusive triathlon of it's type.
The event was held at The Clarendon Academy in Trowbridge & was funded by the 'Tri-2-Invest South West' initiative.
The format of the event was created by the Youth Sport Trust PE Inclusion Lead for Wiltshire-Rachel Bown.
Rachel is also the PE Coordinator at Fairfield Farm College a specialist FE college for young people with additional needs aged 16+. Rachel's Sports Leaders helped organise the 'Moving Section', whilst Lavington School Sports Leaders supported athletes in the 'Swimming Section' & Clarendon Academy Sports Leaders helped local organisation Wheels 4 All deliver the 'Wheeling Section'
The event was a big hit with everyone. Staff from all the schools were delighted with how inclusive the event was & both athletes & leaders had a lot of fun. All 72 pupils completed a triathlon & went home with a medal & a very big smile!
