Swanage Triathlon Festival

Published:

New faces behind the 32 year old Swanage Triathlon Festival!

The event is set in the seaside town of Swanage which resides in an area of outstanding beauty known as The Isle of Purbeck in Dorset.

The first triathlon hosted here was by Off-Beat Events way back in 1986.  Challenging Events have taken over the running of the event for 2018 season.

Kelly Wickens from Challenging Events was only 2 when the Triathlon was first set up by Roger Wakeling, Kelly says   “We plan to keep the festival’s proud tradition of a well run, friendly but challenging event and are really excited to add a Long Swim and Aquathlon on the Saturday evening”. The event has been moved from usual date in August to 30th June – 1st July 2018 which gives more options for accommodation and beach use as the town will not be a busy as it is during the 6 weeks school holidays.

The Transition area overlooks Swanage Bay with amazing views across the Purbecks towards Old Harry Rocks, the eastern gateway to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

The event is known for its stunning views.  The bike course has a mix of steady climbs with some of the steepest descents in Dorset.  The run course is a tough trail climb up Ballard Down towards Old Harry Rocks.

The reward is the awesome views at the top!

There are two Open Water training days to support those participants who need a bit of extra confidence with sea swimming.
