Gale forced winds couldn’t dampen the spirits at Stage 2 of Welsh Triathlon’s Super Series, as athletes were literally blown away at Eglwys Nunydd on Sunday 12th June.

Gale forced winds couldn’t dampen the spirits at Stage 2 of Welsh Triathlon’s Super Series, as athletes were literally blown away at Eglwys Nunydd on Sunday 12^th June. The strength and direction of the wind blew swimmers off course resulting in a number swimming some extra distance, but athletes and spectators alike turned out in force to support what is one of the favourite events in the calendar as Darren Vaughan and the team at Port Talbot Harriers delivered yet again.

First out of the water in a swim time of 20:24:7 was eventual Super Series silver medallist Jack Smith from Monmouth Tri Club, closely followed by 19 year old Jack Southam, with ATAC’s Oliver Simon less than 6 seconds behind the leader.

Oliver Simon took the lead on the bike leg and couldn’t be caught, finishing in first place in an overall time of 55:41:8. Jack Smith managed to maintain his pace enough to secure second place in the Super Series results.

The winner from stage 1 at Llanelli, Guto Morgans of Carmarthen Triathlon Club, had another great race taking third on the Super Series podium and taking the lead in overall Super Series standings after two stages.

In the female race, Hannah Munday from INTELLI TRI led out of the swim and maintained that lead, coming first ahead of stage 1 winner Carys Mai Hughes who had the fastest run of the day in the female race. Claire Walters from Port Talbot Harriers had a great bike leg rising up the field from 8^th after the swim to enter transition from bike to run in second place, but she was overtaken by Carys Mai Hughes on the run meaning Claire had to settle for third place on the Super Series podium.

The youngest athlete of the day, 19 year old Jack Southam from North Dock Dredgers, had an impressive race finishing in 8^th place.

After two stages of the Super Series, we have Guto Morgans leading the men’s rankings while Carys Mai Hughes leads the female standings.
