June Welsh Triathlon Regional Training Days

Published:

Over the past two weekends, we have delivered the latest round of our Regional Training Days (RTD’s).

With the weather warming up, we used these days to focus on developing or introducing the key open water swimming skills. There was a focus on the technical elements of swimming in open water and a chance to practice in the form of relays and friendly races.

Once again, the RTD’s proved highly popular with over 100 athletes signing up across the three regions of Wales. Sessions were held in Llandegfedd Reservoir, Monmouthshire, North Dock, Llanelli and Bala Lake, Gwynedd. We are lucky to have some amazing facilities and venues in Wales!

The RTD’s were organised by our Development Coach, Vicky Johnston, and supported by a number of great coaches over the three sessions. A huge thank you from Welsh Triathlon to all the coaches involved for your time and energy. A special thanks to Rhys Thomas from Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club for traveling all over Wales to help deliver the three sessions!

Speaking about the day, Vicky said ‘’It was great to see so many athletes enjoying the open water swimming focus of the sessions. The aim of the RTD’s is to expose athletes to the key skills of triathlon in a fun and engaging way whilst also giving more people more opportunities to get involved with the sport. We hope to see athletes taking these skills into the races over the coming months.’’

We are planning the next set of RTD’s, which will likely take place in September. The sessions will be open to 11-16-year olds of any ability. Keep your eyes out for more information via our social media channels and WT newsletter if you would like to be involved!
