Hereford Triathlon Club help beginners start their triathlon journey from start to finish!

Hereford Tri club recently held a beginners’ introduction afternoon at Leominster Leisure Centre, which helped a group of people new to triathlon to find out more about the sport and ease some nerves.

“Britain is really good at triathlon and we’re hugely proud to have so manyworld champions like the Brownlee brothers, Helen Jenkins and Chrissie Wellington,” -said Nicola. “Seeing those amazing athletes on TV can make you think that you have to be super fast, super skinny and wear lycra to have a  go at multisport - but you don’t. We have 200 members who are all ages, abilities, shapes and sizes.” This year, the club is also including an Aqua Bike race within the triathlon for the first time. “We were asked to include it by a number of our members and other local people who love swimming and cycling but who don’t want to run due to injury or because they just don’t enjoy it,” said Nicola. “Aqua bike competitions are becoming really popular so we hope it will encourage more local people to have a go on July 1st. The annual Herefordshire Sprint Triathlon is an ideal race for anybody who fancies having a go at multisport for the first time. The sprint distance race has been organised by Hereford Triathlon Club for more than 20 years and is now firmly established at Leominster Leisure Centre. The event starts with a 400 metre swim, 16 lengths of the pool, then the competitors will cycle 12
miles before finishing off with a 3 mile run around the town including a lap of the park by the history “Almost every week we’re contacted by somebody who’s
wanted to have a go at a triathlon for ages but thinks they won’t be good enough,” said Hereford Triathlon Club secretary and coach Nicola Goodwin. “This is a great way to start as the competitors can take as long as they want to and we have a huge band of volunteer marshals who will make sure they have fun; that’s what the race is all about. The competitors will start in waves of six every
five minutes according to their swim ability, that means there’s no pressure on you to finish by a certain time or be the first over the line.
