It has been another brilliant year of triathlon in the Yorkshire Region. Not only have we welcomed many new members in to our triathlon clubs but we have new coaches, new events and many first time triathletes through the successful GO TRI programme.

To celebrate 2018 and to start making plans for 2019 we would like to invite you all to the AGM and Awards on Saturday 17th November, starting at 1pm where the winners of the Workforce Awards will be presented.

Venue: YHA York, Water End, York YO30 6LP

Well done to all of the winners and to those who were nominated.  This year we have recieved the highest amount of nominations ever.  This made it very difficult for the committee to decide on the final winners but we have throughly enjoyed reading about the amazing work people have been doing across the region.

Yorkshire Club of the Year - Wakefield Junior Triathlon Club

Nominations for this category included; Wakefield Tri Club, Humber Triathletes, Leeds Bradford Tri Club, Wakefield Junior Tri Club, NYP, Craven Energy and Yorkshire Vikings.

"I nominated Wakefield Juniors because from my own personal experience, my son is deaf and uses sign language.  The club have gone above and beyond to include him.  The coaches and those involved with the club have given up their time to attend deaf awareness course and learnt basic sign language.  This means for my son he is able to receive direct input from the coaches.  The ethos of the club is one of inclusivity that extends down to the children there who involve my son,  This has done wonders for his self esteem and confidence. For events and award evenings they have provided a BSL interpreter which makes a huge difference to my son."

Children's Coach of the Year - Mark Walby from Humber Triathletes

Nominations for this category included; Mark Walby from Humber Triathletes, Paddy Craig from Harrogate Tri Club and Greg Parkin from Wakefield Tri Club.

"The impact of Mark joining Humber Triathletes has seen the junior club go from strength to strength. We have nearly doubled in membership. More and more of the juniors are stepping up their own training as well and competing in various events."

Children's Event of the Year - Ripon Junior Triathlon

Nominations for this category included; Ripon Junior Triathlon and GO TRI Hull.  Unfortunatly there were other nominations but the person nominating did not list the Event name.

"The kids just love this event. Well organised, always other stuff for the kids to do. Really nice, friendly event. Support is always great too."

Participation Coach of the Year - Craig Lane from Humber Triathletes

Nominations for this category included; Craig Lane from Humber Triathletes and Donna James from HaTriC.

"He is very active in promoting the Triathlon England ethos throughout the club and looks to develop and encourage athletes to perform to the best of their abilities. He also promotes a strong emphasis on ensuring the club promotes positive wellbeing and welfare of its members and provides opportunities to celebrate success of all level participants at the club from.grass roots to GB age group representation."

Technical Official of the Year - Mark Walby from Humber Triathletes

"Mark volunteers at many events. He regularly takes the time to ensure all details are followed and that he offers advice on any aspects of the event that are under scrutiny. He has a cool and calming influence in the most demanding situations that can occur."

Commercial Event of the Year - Triology Events Super Sprint Series

Nominations for this category included; Triology Events and Ripon Triathlon.

"My favourite event, I go back every year because this event really captures the spirit of triathlon. It’s inclusive, welcomes beginners, is safe, is professional and is fun. These events have given hundreds of people the chance to start their tri career."

GO TRI Organiser of the Year - Diane Jordan from GO TRI Doncaster

Nominations for this category included; GO TRI Hull, GO TRI Bramley Baths, GO TRI Hyde Park Harriers, GO TRI Skipton, GO TRI Doncaster and GO TRI Woodhouse Grove School.

"Diane organised a GO TRI Duathlon and Aquathlon. These were the first GO TRI Events that Doncaster Tri Club had organised and it attracted more competitors than had been expected for a first time event.  It was well organised, supportive before during and after the event. Fun to compete in and local to my area."

Volunteer of the Year - James Turner from NYP Tri

Nominations for this category included; Craig Lane, James Turner, Brett Edgeworth, John Bull, Mark Walby, Richard Branford and Gavin King.

"James broke his back but rather than stepping out of the tri-club scene while he recovered, he embraced the opportunity to Marshall events and generally offer support and encouragement to fellow members, always with a smile!"
