Get involved with Tri January

Published:

Last year, Tri January saw over 5,000 people take up the swim, bike, run challenge.  This January we would love to create more opportunities to make Tri January accessible across as much of Yorkshire as possible.

Just like last year, there will be different challenges for participants to choose from and we would love for clubs to get involved to help these participants complete their challenge!

How I hear you say?

You can organise a brand-new GO TRI Session or simply adapt an existing club training session – as long as it is beginner focussed.  Below are some ideas: -

  • Open your doors at a club training session:

For example, you could save a lane at a club swim session, or a series of club sessions just for newbies, by delivering a GO TRI Learn to Swim Front Crawl.  Or open up a club Run session(s) and deliver a GO TRI Beginner Run Session.  People love running on the 1st January!

  • Organise Train for GO TRI Sessions:

A four to six-week block of sessions leading up to a GO TRI Event.  For example, week 1 is swimming, week 2 in cycling, week 3 in running, week 4 is transition practice.

  • Organise a GO TRI Novice Training Day:

A morning or afternoon of activity where participants cover swim, bike, run and transition all in half a day.

As it’s January then Duathlons or Indoor Triathlons are a good idea and really appealing to Novices.  This could be using two pool lanes with 4 swimmers who swim 200m, they then get changed and head to the gym to cycle on a static bike or spin bike for 5km and then complete a run on a treadmill or in a hall for 1.5km.  When the pool is clear the next 4 get in and swim and repeat.  If you have the pool for 30mins then you could get 20 people through?

It’s really about introducing more people to the sport and then encouraging them to join the club to continue their journey.

The cost to participant would just be the same as a normal club session (no more than £10 per session) so it’s not a barrier to participation and this still goes directly to the club to cover any booking fees etc.  We would not expect the club to run these for free for participants.  All the money generated is the clubs.

The participant booking would need to be through our GO TRI website which I can discuss with you once you know what activity you would like to put on.

If your club would like to get involved, then please get in touch and I will support you throughout the journey.  Remember this could be anything; a lane at a club swim, a group beginner run, a lead ride or cycle skills session.

I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas.
