YORKSHIRE REGION QUALIFICATION CRITERIA

The IRC's are the National Championships for the TriStar2 (year of birth 2009/2010) & TriStar3 (year of birth 2007/2008) triathletes, with only the best from each region selected to compete. 

The format will be different in 2021 following a review of the event in 2019.  The new format was due to be rolled out in 2020, but sadly the event was cancelled.  The format is as follows

DAY 1    3 athletes selected per category (team of 12 in total)

• Both age groups (Tri2 and Tri3) will be racing over the Heats/Finals format (all athletes getting to race twice - A and B Final - irrespective of heat result)
• Tristar 2’s will do an Aquathlon
  • 300m swim/1.2km run
• Tristar 3’s will do a Triathlon
  • 300m swim/2.6km bike (Mallory half lap)/1.2km run

DAY 2    an additional athlete races in each category (team of 16 in total)

THE EVENT

The event will form part of ‘The Big Weekend’ which also sees the last of the super series race for the Youth and Junior athletes.

The event is to be held at Mallory Park Racing Circuit in Leicestershire over the weekend of 11 – 12 September.  More details will be issued closer to the time.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR YORKSHIRE REGION

In previous years our team selection has been based on specific races from the regional race series.  Sadly this year it has not been possible to run the series so we have changed the selection criteria and this year we will hold two time trial events, both on Saturday 26 June 2021

• Run/Bike to be held at Brownlee Centre, Leeds LS16 8NA.  Details to be confirmed but start approx. 11.30am.  Distances as above.
• Swim/Run to be held at Manvers Lake, Wath Upon Dearne, S63 7EH.  Again details to be confirmed, but expected start 3.30p.  Distances as above.

We will be selecting a team of 16 athletes in total, 12 will race both days and the remaining 4 will race in the relays only on day 2 of the event.

The selection of athletes will be decided by the Yorkshire Regional Committee, the decision of which will be final.  Successful athletes will be notified by 4 July 2021.  Any athlete wishing to be considered must be a member of a British Triathlon Member, Yorkshire region (athletes must live in Yorkshire or be members of a Yorkshire triathlon club).

REGISTRATION FOR TIME TRIAL

The time trial is not an open event, it is aimed at those athletes with a realistic prospect of selection.  We appreciate this may be difficult to judge this year as there have been very few opportunities for athletes to race comparatively. In the past three years of the IRC’s at Mallory Park all athletes completed the disciplines in the following times (see BTF website for further information). 

FURTHER INFORMATION

We are in the process of finalising details for the time trials, and appreciate your patience.  We will release additional information in the next few days, but wanted to update everyone on the selection criteria for this year and the date.  There will be a charge per athlete for attending the time trail, this will cover venue hire and timing.  Again, further details to follow but we do not expect this to be more than £20 per athlete.
