Skills School Newsround

Published:

Over the past couple of months Skills School has been very busy in the Yorkshire Region.

First up we held two Skills School Days alongside the Leeds World Triathlon Series Event on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th June, where junior triathletes got to experience many different activities such as a Man Hunt on bikes and Bike Ball (an invasion game whilst riding your bike).

Skills School at Leeds was a special weekend as it was situated in the event village which was in the middle of all the ongoing races. After Skills School had finished on Sunday the junior athletes got to watch the Brownlee Brothers in action at Roundhay Park and watched the race unfold on the big screen at the event village.

Next we headed to Hull on Saturday 15th July.  Here we tried something a little different and worked closely with Humber Triathletes to utilise their normal Saturday training session.

The day was based at Fitness First where we made use of the 25m pool and 200m indoor track. The day was very different to their normal junior sessions as athletes were exposed to game based learning activities where the emphasis was on having fun and working hard without realising. Both athletes and coaches enjoyed the day and we have been invited back to organise another day at the new cycle circuit.

The next Skills School event is a weekend camp staying at Hathersage Youth Hostel. The weekend starts on Saturday 9th September and finishes Sunday 10th September.
