On 29th June, the Yorkshire Inter-Club Championships returned to the Ripon Triathlon Festival.

The Championship is a “race within a race” that allows all triathletes competing for a Yorkshire Club in the standard distance race to be counted towards an overall club score. There are 26 scoring athletes per club, 13 males and 13 females across five age groups, meaning there were many, many opportunities to contribute to an overall club score.

Despite a tough race with temperatures of nearly 30 degrees, 400 triathletes crossed the finish line. Along the way our Regional Chair presented some champagne “spot prizes” to triathletes including best sprint finish and best finish, awarded to runner 304 for an incredible Baywatch impersonation as he came down the home straight.

Taking the top spot in the Inter-Club Champs were Wakefield Tri Club, whose strong turnout in the women’s categories was key to their club success.  NYP came in second place with some impressive male finishing positions; and were followed in 3^rd by last year’s winners, Leeds Bradford.  All the teams took away champagne and the winners took the Yorkshire Rose trophy which they get to defend next year.
