Want to know how to FIND or BECOME a VI Guide?

Published:

To encourage others to pursue their interest in becoming a Guide or how to find one, the Yorkshire Region have put together some useful information.

Are you interested in Triathlon as a hobby, but not sure where to find a guide? Or maybe you're someone who is an established Triathlete and are considering helping someone else discover the joy of Triathlon by becoming a guide yourself. Either way, it can be difficult to know where to start and many are put off due to lack of accessible information.

FIND a GUIDE in YORKSHIRE

There are many ways a blind or partially sighted individual can get involved in Triathlon, however you’ll probably want to train with a guide too. The two common ways this is done depends on the method you feel more comfortable with, your level of vision, the area you’re training in. The two most common ways of guiding are: -

  1. Through verbal direction.
  2. Running / swimming with a tether and cycling on a Tandem.

Finding a guide could therefore help you to:

  • Go for a swim, cycle or run – any place, any time, any distance, any speed
  • Join a club – a great way to meet new people and socialise
  • Take part in an event – an opportunity to set goals and challenge yourself

Our friendly guides have all attended a VI Guide Training Workshop, are based across Yorkshire, are passionate about triathlon and are waiting to help support you whether it’s your first-time swimming, cycling or running or you’re a seasoned triathlete just looking for more support.

To find a Guide, please email the Regional Disability and Inclusion Officer, Tony Vout: yorkshire-disability@triathlonengland.org

We will need to know: -

  1. Name:
  2. Location:
  3. Sex:
  4. Are you new to Triathlon?
  5. What Guide support you require: (Training; Swimming, Cycling or Running or for an Event).

Tony will then put out a call to all Registered Guides to see if anyone can support you with your request.

If you are just looking for a Guide to help with running then there is a fantastic Find a Guide page on the British Blind Sport website, which can be found here:
