Yorkshire Triathlon Academy

& Yorkshire Talent Squad

Yorkshire Triathlon Academy (YTA)

The Regional Academies are the foundations of the triathlon talent pathway in England and GB. They are led in each case by a Head Coach who works with the national talent pathway staff and regional committee to deliver a programme of support to the best young triathletes in their region.

Yorkshire Talent Squad (YTS)

In addition to the Regional Academy the region also has the Yorkshire Talent Squad to support those athletes who have shown potential, and are close to the points score needed to enter the academy (usually within 10% of academy points scores). For more details on teh YTS squad, entry criteria and more, please visit the Yorkshire Talent Squad page.

Who can apply?

Applicants for both squads will follow the same process as outlined below.

Athletes who will be aged 14-18 years in 2018 and whose performance standards in swimming and running meet or exceed the minimum standard required (see below) are advised to apply.

A number of factors will be used to select athletes, including: performance at the selection trials, 2018 race results, commitment, conduct and potential to add value to the current academy.

Existing members of the academy are expected to attend the selection trials, and will be assessed against the same criteria, as well as well as their adherence to the academy process during the 2017/18 season.

At the Head Coach’s discretion, personal best performances achieved during 2018 may be considered if performances at the selection trials are below par. Only performances that can be verified on ‘British Swimming’ and/or ‘Power of 10’ will be considered for this purpose.

Applications will be reviewed and selected athletes will be invited to attend the selection trials by Monday 3rd September. A full guide can be found by clicking the link below.

Guidance on minimum standard required

The standard of athletes selected onto Regional Talent Academies nationally continues to rise each year. The Yorkshire Triathlon Academy has a proud history of producing elite triathletes, including: Alistair Brownlee, Jonathan Brownlee and Gordon Benson to name a few.

The swim and run times equate to points using The Academy Points Table.

The current standard in Yorkshire is to achieve 330 points. The tables below show the times needed to achieve this.

There are no tables for the cycling element of the trial.
