Yorkshire Talent Squad

Broadening Talent Identification in Yorkshire

The Yorkshire Talent Squad was a new initiative for the 2017/18 season, created to broaden Talent Identification within the region. In 2020/21 it will continue under a similar structure.

The Talent Squad is a pre-cursor to the Regional Academy, which is the first step of the British Triathlon Performance Pathway. The Yorkshire Triathlon Academy and the Yorkshire Talent Squad both work to the philosophy and principles of the British Triathlon Athlete Development Framework

Entry to the squad is open to those aged between 13 & 17 in the following season. Due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, there will be no selection trials held for the 2020-21 season. The 2019-202 squad will be extended to the 2020-21 season and athletes currently within the squad have the option to remain in the programme for another season.

New applicants will be subjectively assessed from the application form below

https://forms.gle/bvmdhiUAkVZnFTza6

If successful will  start with YTS where we can assess their capabilities and determine their suitability to move to YTA (Academy) at some point.

New applicants or existing YTS athletes can be invited as guests to academy training between Sept-Dec

Time trials will take place for all in about Dec/Jan assuming that there have been a consistent 3 months of full swimming programmes to that point.

As a selective programme, the Talent Squad runs in conjunction with the Regional Academy and requires athletes to perform at a level within 10% of the appropriate age and gender related times as set by the Academy itself. Please refer to the main Academy web page for the performance levels by age-group

The role of any athlete within the Squad is to demonstrate not just their performance, but a rounded, self aware, focussed, mature and driven attitude to Triathlon and their own personal development.

Athletes are expected to enter into the Yorkshire Junior Triathlon Series as a minimum level of competitive racing and their performance in that series will be considered as part of any re-application for the following season.

Due to Covid-19,  the training available is under constant review, however under usual conditions, the squad trains every Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm at The Brownlee Centre in Leeds. As an unfunded squad, there is an athlete subscription  to cover all coached sessions. On an invitational basis there will be opportunities for athletes to attend some of the Regional Academy sessions/camps. Additional sessions to enhance training will include open water swimming, running & group rides.

Should you have any questions, please email triathlonyts@gmail.com and one of the coaching team will get back to you.
