Jellyfish and dolphins join the IRC team in Sunderland

Published:

Jelly fish and dolphins were just a couple of the lovely creatures off the Sunderland coastline last weekend when the East Midlands IRC team competed in the Inter Regional Championships( IRC’s).

Against some tough opposition from across the country the East Midland's teams battled strongly over the two days of competition. There were A and B finals which saw the East Midland's winning some of the individual races in the B final on the Saturday. On the Sunday it was the mixed relay event  which is always very exciting. Again there were two finals where we were fighting hard amongst some strong competition from Scotland, Wales, to the South East region.

One of team athletes told me after her race that she met a jelly fish the size of a dinner plate during her relay leg , said hello and carried on swimming.

This for me said it all, racing strong no matter what the obstacle,  which showed the character of the team members.

It was a great weekend of racing and they still have more to race for with Oundle Triathlon this coming weekend, followed by a duathlon at Darley Moor in September. These latter two races are part of the East Midlands  Junior Race Series. All the details are on the East Midlands website or follow the JRS on Facebook.
