Make it a year to remember with British Triathlon membership

Regional winners on the national stage

The winners of the East Midlands Awards go forward alongside the other regional winners to decide the winners of the annual Triathlon England Awards, and this is what happened to Speedhub Triathlon Club when they were crowned 2019 Club Event of the Year for the Battle of Bosworth Triathlon.

“It was a really great feeling when we were nominated for the Club Event of the Year Award,” said Mandy Nethercot, Race Director at Speedhub Triathlon Club.

“It makes all the hard work, late and sleepless nights feel worth it because you know that people have enjoyed your event and had an experience that they want to recognise and recommend by nominating you.”

Each year, the Triathlon England Awards recognise and celebrate the hard work of volunteers who help to make the sport what it is, with this being as evident in 2020 as ever before.

This year’s awards reflect the ways in which volunteers have adapted to enable members across the country to continue to take part in the sport during lockdown, with new categories; virtual coach, virtual activity and key worker of the year added to the list.

“Events like ours are run and supported by volunteers,” added Nethercot. “Without them they simply wouldn’t happen. Volunteers keep coming back year-after-year, showing their commitment and willingness to give up their time to help others take part.

“It’s so important to thank and recognise these volunteers, and the Triathlon England Awards are a great way of doing this.

“Volunteers don’t get involved for the recognition, but when they are recognised and shown that they and what they do is appreciated, it makes them feel proud to have been noticed and the time and energy they put in valued.

“Throughout lockdown, the work of volunteers has been really important. They’ve been helping people to take part, stay healthy and keep engaged in exceptional circumstances.

“I think it’s also been beneficial to volunteers to have been keeping going where possible during this time, helping with mental health and being able know they’re supporting others.”

The 2020 Triathlon England Awards are now open for nomination and will close on Wednesday 2 September at 12 noon.

There are seven categories to nominate someone in: Club of the Year; Coach of the Year; Key Worker of the Year; Multisport Event of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Virtual Activity of the Year; and Virtual Coach of the Year.
