Inter Regional Championships 2017

Published:

Each year the Inter Regional Championships (IRC) gives the best young triathletes in each region the opportunity to experience Olympic-style open-water draft-legal racing. Each of the races (for Tristar 2 and Tristar 3 girls and boys) features three triathletes from each region. Each triathlete's finishing position counts towards their region's final score.

This year's IRC was on August Bank Holiday Monday at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.  As the IRC is part of the annual Under 20s Triathlon Festival there were also races for Youths (U17) and Juniors (U20).  The Youth and Junior races were the final round of the British Triathlon Superseries and, for the Juniors, the selection race for the World Championships.

In other words, it was a big day for everyone.

The Eastern Region IRC team, with a mixture of newcomers and (relatively speaking) old hands, finished 8th with outstanding individual performances from Antonia Jubb and Elliot Gladwell who were overall winners of T2 girls and T2 boys respectively.

The full team:

T3 Boys:  Kai Boggon (12th), James Fraser (17th), Tom Blake (34th)

T3 Girls:  Poppy Branton (23rd), Katie Tasker (26th)., Emma Lewis (35th)

T2 Boys:  Elliot Gladwell (1st), Jake Latham (7th), Jake Borrett (13th)

T2 Girls:  Antonia Jubb (1st), Olivia Corner (23rd), Kitty Hilling (33rd)
