British Duathlon Championships at Clumber Park

Published:

British Triathlon is pleased to announce next year’s British Duathlon Championships are set to take place on 21 March 2015 as part of the Clumber Park Duathlon.

The well-known event is a long-term host of both British Championships and Great Britain Age-Group Team qualifiers and will be the first opportunity for age-group duathletes to win a British title next season. The event is delivered by One Step Beyond and is now open for entries via www.onestepbeyond.org.uk

The Clumber Park Duathlon takes place in the picturesque setting of the north Nottinghamshire countryside, which makes this event one of the most scenic races around. However, there will be no time to take in the scenery for title-winning hopefuls, as athletes complete a 10km run, 40km bike and 5km run. Both run sections take place on fully closed roads that feature a steady climb from the start line before a fast decent into transition and the finish line. The long rolling roads around Sherwood Forest provide a testing bike course as the roads pitch from climb to descent throughout the 40km route.

Aspirant Great Britain Age-Group Team members will also have the opportunity to qualify for the
2015 ITU Sprint and Standard Duathlon World Championships and 2016 ETU Sprint and Standard Duathlon European Championships, ensuring this event will be one of the highlights of the early season.

Iain Hamilton of One Step Beyond commented: “One Step Beyond is delighted to welcome the British Duathlon Championships back to the beautiful National Trust venue of Clumber Park. Clumber Park has a long history of multisport events starting nearly 20 years ago and we look forward to working closely with British Triathlon and the National Trust to organize an event fitting to be a British Championships. Being central in the UK we look forward to welcoming athletes from all of the Home Nations and I am confident the course based in the legendry Sherwood Forest will provide a tough test that ensures the British titles and Great British Age-Group Team qualification places will be well deserved. I expect the 1200 slots to fill well before the event in March”

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events added: “The Clumber Park Duathlon is the perfect event to kick-start the 2015 season of British Age-Group Championships. One Step Beyond is an experienced event organiser and will deliver a fast paced and enjoyable event for both participants and spectators. Entries are still available in all our British Championships, so why not make 2015 the year you become a British Champion?"

The 2015 British Duathlon Championships will be followed by the British Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships at St Neots Triathlon (www.nicetrievents.com) on 10 May 2015; the British Middle Distance Triathlon Championships follow at the Bala Middle Distance Triathlon (www.wrecsamtri.org.uk) on 7 June 2015. Entries are available on the event website for both races.
