Norman Brook receives MBE

Published:

Former British Triathlon Chief Executive, Norman Brook was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s honours list 2014.

Norman Brook, who was Chief Executive of British Triathlon from 2000 to 2007, received the award in recognition for his services to social development through sport, particularly in South Africa.

He commented: “I am delighted that our work using sport to promote positive youth development in South Africa has been recognised.”

He added: “I am also looking to welcome members of the ITU and BTF to Cape Town for the World Triathlon Series race in April and will be happy to show visitors how sport is helping empower young people living in townships and helping them rise to meet the many challenges that exist due to poverty.”

Current BTF Chief Executive, Zara Hyde Peters commented: “It is fantastic news that Norman, a respected member of the triathlon family and longstanding contributor to British endurance athletics, is to receive this award from the Queen.

“Norman has of course been living and promoting our sport in South Africa for some time, and it’s fitting that this award should come in the same year that the World Triathlon Series will visit Cape Town for the first time in April.”

Brook received a Gold Pin Award from British Triathlon in 2011 and is credited with having driven the modernisation and development of triathlon during his time as Chief Executive.
