The Great Britain Age-Group Team added to the medals from the ITU Triathlon World Championships at last weekend’s 2014 ITU Zofingen Long Distance Duathlon World Championships on 7 September.

The GB age-group team of 22 athletes won 6 medals in Switzerland, whilst Emma Pooley celebrated her debut outing for GB by taking the elite women’s title.

Julian Lings (25-29) brought home a gold medal for Britain, finishing tenth overall in 06:50.32.
Christopher Dettmar (40-44) added a gold medal to his collection after winning bronze in last year’s Championships, finishing in 19th position overall in 07:12:08. Angela McGurk (30-34) also won her age-group in 09:45:58 and gained a gold medal in the process.

Kirsti Sharratt (45-49), Richard Mathie (25-29) and Andrew Brierley (45-49) also added to Britain’s medal tally by winning silver medals in their age-groups.

Jon Cowell, Team Captain, who finished seventh in the 50-54 age-group commented:
“In perfect racing conditions, the Great Britain Age-Group Team made up for a lack of numbers with some outstanding performances and a high degree of camaraderie. There were some well deserved PBs and quality first time finishes amongst the team.”

He continued: “Our thanks to Emma Pooley and Matt Moorhouse who offered their support and encouragement despite their own racing commitments. We hope to see more duathletes taking in one of the world’s toughest races next season.”

Emma Pooley celebrated the elite women’s title as the former professional cyclist made her debut for the Great Britain Team. In the elite men’s race, Matt Moorhouse finished in sixth place.
