Open Water Activator Course Launched

Published:

Club members or volunteers who support open water swim sessions in the West Midlands can now register for British Triathlon’s brand new Open Water Activator courses.

The first course will take place at Bosworth Water Trust Leisure Park on 19th August. Watch this space for an announcement of a course at Alderford Lake (formerly known as Dearnford) near Whitchurch in September.

The session at Bosworth will run from 9am to 5pm at the Trust in Wellesborough Road in Market Bosworth.

Open water activators are the people who allow open water swimming sessions in clubs or communities to take place – an interested parent, spouse, sibling, an active triathlete, a qualified coach or technical official.

Helen Barklam from British Triathlon said: "Activators may take on a variety of roles depending on their environment, ranging from welcoming people to organising activities and leading the activity as a support to club coaches.

"Activators are crucial to a club or community, providing training opportunities for triathletes in an inspirational, fun and social manner, leading them to return to the sessions again and again. The Activator position is a perfect opportunity for someone who would like a role in a club, but might not feel confident to take the leap to become a qualified coach or a technical official."
