Young Person Activator Course

The course gives Young Activators the skills and experience to improve the enjoyment and quality of club and school triathlon sessions, which will also help to further grow the sport.

Date – 10th March 2019

Time – 9.00-16.00

Where – Cranbrook Education Campus, Tillhouse Road, Cranbrook , Exeter, Devon, EX5 7EE

Cost - £35 PP

Young Activators will develop the skills to:

  • Assist a coach with the set up and running of club activities.
  • Lead sessions under the supervision of a coach or PE teacher. This might involve helping to organise an activity within a session i.e a transition skills challenge, leading the warm-up/warm down, splitting athletes into groups in preparation for the session.
  • Assist in wider club or school triathlon activities such as volunteering or helping to organise GO TRI events or other competitions.

Community Activator Course

This course is primarily designed to provide those who want to take on this role some additional skills to increase the safety and enjoyment of such activities for all those who take part.

Date – 10th March 2019

Time – 9.00-16.00

Where – Cranbrook Education Campus, Tillhouse Road, Cranbrook , Exeter, Devon, EX5 7EE

Cost - £65 PP

There are three important key strands to this role, all of which can be rewarding and will enhance participation and enjoyment of triathlon for all.                                                                               

  • To organise and lead safe, effective and inclusive triathlon training activities and experiences (cycling & running).
  • To inform, inspire and cultivate connections in their local clubs and communities, with initiatives such as GO TRI.

Act as a ‘coach support worker’, helping the Head Coach during sessions (e.g. setting up and take down equipment, taking timing splits, writing the session on the white board etc.)

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Course

British Triathlon are delighted to be collaborating with StreetGames in delivering a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course

The YMHFA Course is adapted to both the sports environment and to young people. This course destigmatises mental ill health and attendees report greater confidence in managing situations where young people do present with troubling symptoms. 

Learners will explore the most common mental health conditions experienced by young people and discover what youth and sport workers can do to prevent and/or intervene when needed.   

Learners will be able to:

  • challenge the discrimination surrounding mental health
  • define mental health & common issues
  • relate to other people's experiences
  • look after their own mental health
  • protect a young person who may be at risk
  • spot the signs of mental health issues in young people
  • give help, support and guidance to any young person who needs it

Open Water CPD Workshop

The Open Water Coaching Workshop is aimed primarily at coaches who currently deliver or would like to deliver coached open water sessions.

The one day workshop has a mix of theory and practical, designed to support the development of open water coaching knowledge and ability.

Date – 13th July 2019

Time - 9.00-17.00

Where - Vobster Quay, Upper Vobster, Radstock, Somerset, BA3 5SD

Cost - £49 PP

As well as getting hands on experience coaching a group of swimmers, you will also cover:

  • What types of activities can go into an open water session and how to integrate these into a session plan
  • The health and safety of open water coaching and what to look for in a venue when delivering open water sessions
  • Coaching skills for effective open water session delivery
  • How to effectively manage a safety team and gaining an insight how to best work with them
