Published:

Team GB triathletes were in relaxed mood at the British Olympic Association press conference in Hyde Park ahead of the women’s race on Saturday morning. Helen Jenkins, Lucy Hall and Vicky Holland are aiming to make history by winning Britain’s first ever triathlon medal.

Helen Jenkins commented: “The aim for British triathlon is to win a medal and I think the three of us working together, if three of us are committed to it, we’ve got more chance to achieve it.”

Referencing the fantastic support that Team GB has received so far, she added: “It really motivates you watching other athletes racing and how much support they’re getting.”

Vicky Holland will make her Olympic debut on Saturday morning. She said: “It’s really exciting, whatever happens, whatever the result, there is nothing that can take away that this is an Olympic Games, a home Olympic Games and my first Olympic Games.”

She added: “We have the capacity here for a huge crowd here, large areas of it are free-to-view, which is fantastic. Anybody can come down and watch it and as we have medal hopes in both the male and female events.”

Lucy Hall is also making her Olympic debut. “I’m really happy with how preparation has gone,” she said. “I’m very positive about, I can’t wait to race.”

She continued: “It's really crazy to think that I got here, it wasn't even a goal at the start of the year. I'm aiming to enjoy it as well as perform to the best of my ability.”

The women’s triathlon starts at 9am on Saturday. Large crowds are anticipated in Hyde Park and at Triathlon Live sites around the country.

The men’s team of Alistair Brownlee, Jonathan Brownlee and Stuart Hayes will arrive in London over the weekend ready to compete on Tuesday morning at 11.30am.
